We Got the Grant! $750,000

The city was notified in mid September that the Department of Commerce approved the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application in the amount of $750,000. Additionally, the city was notified that our grant application received the highest score of all the applications this year! In the words of Mayor Lois Wilson, "Woo-hoo!"
This funding is going to be used to replace some of the loan funding for the Wastewater Treatment Facility Improvement Project. So instead of having to pay back $2,941,454 we will only have 2,191,454 to pay back. That means a savings of $13 per month (or $26 per billing cycle) to your sewer bills.
We are really excited to receive the CDBG funds and want to thank all those of you who participated in the income survey last May and made it possible for the city to be eligible for these funds. Good job to everyone!
In addition, the city is working with our local legislators, Rep. Richard DeBolt and Sen. John Braun, to see if we can get some additional funding from the 2020 State Legislative Budget to help reduce the loan amount even more.
The city will be going out to bid for a contractor for the project at the end of this year and hope to get started on the project at the beginning of 2020.
