posted Jun 23, 2017, 3:01 PM by Jill Nielson   [ updated Jun 23, 2017, 3:15 PM ]

The Annual City of Vader 4th of July Celebration is going to be a spectacular event again this year full of food, activities and fireworks! This year it will be held at a new location next to the highway on D Street including the school property at 704 D Street. The event will start at 4:00 p.m. at which time there will be hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and soda pop offered by the Little Crane Cafe as well as popcorn and cotton candy by the 4th of July volunteers. These items are offered without charge but donations are encouraged. Planned activities will include a bouncy house for the little ones and a dunk tank for those who might have a good throwing arm. In addition we expect local vendors to be in attendance offering their wares. The event will culminate in a spectacular fireworks and music show being presented again this year by Reggie Smith and beginning at approximately 10:00 p.m. We invite all to come and bring your families, bring your friends and most importantly, bring your love for this beautiful free country that we are so blessed to enjoy! This is always a super-duper fun family event so mark your calendars and don't forget to bring your blankets and chairs!

Welcome New City Councilor Leona Sander-Hunter!

posted Apr 14, 2017, 10:38 AM by Jill Nielson

On March 23rd, 2017 the Vader City Council appointed Leona Sander-Hunter to fill vacant Council Position #5. This seat became vacant back in January when Councilor Elect Ruth Crear resigned.
Mrs. Sander-Hunter moved to Vader at the end of 2015 when she took ownership of the family home on C Street. Her grandfather, Jesse Brown, who served as Mayor of Vader from 1972-1975, lived in the home for many years. Leona has fond memories of spending Summer vacation and other holidays here in Vader and she and her husband are looking forward to serving the community she now calls home.
This Council position along with two others will be up for re-election of a 2-year term this fall. Election filing dates are May 15-19 and information can be found on the Lewis County Candidate Filing webpage.

Happy New Year!

posted Jan 10, 2017, 10:44 AM by Jill Nielson

The City Staff, Administration and Elected Officials wish all of you a Happy New Year full of peace, love and WARMTH!  It's been cold outside, but hopefully warm in your hearts and homes. Best wishes to all and don't forget to get your dog licenses renewed. We are able to help find lost owners when a pooch ends up wandering around town by accident, but only if they are licensed. It's easy and inexpensive. Only $10.50 for spayed/neutered and $18.75 if not. Follow this link to see a list of animal fees & regulations. Woof!

Cleaning Up Vader! - Code Enforcement Strategies in Full Force

posted Dec 7, 2016, 1:59 PM by Jill Nielson

Have you noticed? Several properties in Vader have been getting cleaned up this Fall! Junk vehicles removed, vegetation cut back and trimmed, refuse removed and cleaned up. All this and more is happening around the City of Vader and the Mayor and City Council work to "Clean Up Vader!"

The City Council has worked for the past two years to get the appropriate regulations in place that would allow the Mayor to enforce clean-up regulations. We have finally begun to see the fruits of this extensive efforts. Several properties have already removed junk vehicles, overgrown vegetation, refuse and burned-out buildings. Another thing you might notice around town is boarded up vacant buildings which may be unsightly now, but they represent the effort to secure the property from vagrants, squatters and wild animals. This effort will help make our neighborhoods safe for all who live nearby. Safety is the city's first priority. Council will begin to discuss the "beauty" aspect in the next round of actions to be addressed.

Hopefully you are enjoying a cleaner and safer community atmosphere. If you are aware of any city code violations please contact city hall and help the city staff become aware of possible issues needing to be addressed. You are an important part of the community and when we work together we can accomplish great things!

Welcome to two newly appointed City Council Persons Jason Dailey and Mike Parsons. Council appointed Mr. Dailey in February and Mr. Parsons in July as members of the City Council at regularly scheduled City Council Meetings. Mr. Dailey is a long time resident and a member of the family owned Little Crane Cafe/J&G Grocery/Dailey Mini-storage businesses. He has been a member of the Park Board in recent years and is very familiar with the history of Vader and it's citizens and brings a fresh perspective to the Council. Mr. Parsons has lived in Vader for nearly 2 years now and has been a member and the Chairman of the Vader Park Board over the last year. His energy and enthusiasm as well as his efforts to help clean up derelict properties in the South end of Vader made him a desirable candidate for the position. The Vader City Council and Mayor would like to thank all those who volunteered to fill the vacated positions and hope these individuals will still have the desire to serve in the future.

How long will Councilor Dailey & Parsons Serve in the appointed positions? Council Position #2 and #4 that were vacated by Councilors Elect Fenison and Costello both have a 4 year term that runs from January 2016 thru December 2019. However, due to the resignation of the elected Councilors (Mr. Fenison and Mrs. Costello), the appointed Councilors (Mr. Dailey and Mr. Parsons) will serve in the positions for the remaining portion of 2016 and all of 2017, thru the end of the next regular election cycle which will be November of 2017. The 2017 election cycle will allow any qualified residents to run for office to fill the last 2 years of the Council Positions #2 and #4 term (2018-2019). Mr. Dailey and Mr. Parsons may run for these positions as well as any other qualified resident. When the election results are finalized at the end of November 2017, the newly elected candidates will immediately be sworn in and fill the positions for the remaining 2 years of the terms. At the end of the 2 year terms (2019) the positions will be back on schedule and will both be up for a new 4 year term. This means that in 2017 there will be two 2 year Council Position, three 4 year Council Positions up for grabs. (Three 4 year term Council Positions #1, #3 and #5 are regularly scheduled to be up for election in the 2017 election cycle.)
