National Day of Service 2017 - Success!

posted Sep 15, 2017, 10:25 AM by Jill Nielson

On October 25, 2001, the U.S. House of Representatives Joint Resolution 71 was approved.  President George W. Bush signed the resolution into law on December 18, 2001 (as Public Law 107-89). Resolution 71 requested that the President designate September 11 of each year as “Patriot Day”.

On this day, it is asked by the President that the American flag is flown at half-staff at individual American homes, the White House and on all United States government buildings and establishments at home and abroad.  The President has also asked Americans to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 A.M.(Eastern Daylight Time), the time the first plane struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.  He also strongly encourages Americans to use the Corporation for National and Community Service to find and volunteer for service opportunities.

On September 9th, 2017 the City of Vader participated in our own National Day of Service as requested by President Bush more than 16 years ago. The City of Vader has participated in this national event for the last 5 years.

This year the City had 38 individuals participate ranging in age from 8 years to 65+years old. This year the city enjoyed participation from the Castle Rock School District which transported 23 members and coaches of the Girl's Soccer Team to the project.

“As we join in serving causes greater than ourselves and honoring those we lost, we are reminded of the ways that the victims of 9/11 live on — in the people they loved, the lives they touched, and the courageous acts they inspired.  On Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance, we pledge to carry on their legacy of courage and compassion, and to move forward together as one people.” ~Presidential Proclamation–Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance

posted Jun 23, 2017, 3:01 PM by Jill Nielson   [ updated Jun 27, 2017, 9:56 AM ]

The Annual City of Vader 4th of July Celebration is going to be a spectacular event again this year full of food, activities and fireworks! This year it will be held at a new location next to the highway on D Street including the school property at 704 D Street. The event will start at 4:00 p.m. at which time there will be hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and soda pop offered by the Little Crane Cafe as well as popcorn and cotton candy by the 4th of July volunteers. These items are offered without charge but donations are encouraged. Planned activities will include a bouncy house for the little ones and a dunk tank for those who might have a good throwing arm. In addition we expect local vendors to be in attendance offering their wares. The event will culminate in a spectacular fireworks and music show being presented again this year by Reggie Smith and beginning at approximately 10:00 p.m. We invite all to come and bring your families, bring your friends and most importantly, bring your love for this beautiful free country that we are so blessed to enjoy! This is always a super-duper fun family event so mark your calendars and don't forget to bring your blankets and chairs!
