Welcome Interim Mayor Lois Wilson!

We would like to officially welcome the newly appointed Interim Mayor, Lois Wilson! Mayor Wilson will be filling in the Mayor's position due to the vacancy created when Ken Smith left office. Mayor Wilson will remain in office until the next regular election is completed in November 2019. The winner of the election will take office immediately upon certification of the election.

Mayor Wilson has been a resident in Vader since 2006 and has served on the City Council, with the Lion's Club, and the Vader Citizen's League. She cares for her 97 year old mother, Luella, and has helped and cared for many of the elderly residents in and around Vader. She has run a sucessful logging camp operation in Alaska for 7 years, with her then husband. She has also owned and operated an Adult Care Facility in Oregon for many years where she was able to use her skills as a Certified Nurses Assistant. After her second husband passed away she retired here in Vader 13 years ago, where she is well known for her compassionate heart, friendly demeanor and listening ear. Thank you Lois for being willing to fill in during the city's time of need.

Mayor Wilson will be at city hall on Tuesday nights from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. to hear residents concerns, comments and ideas. Please come down and let Mayor Wilson know what's on your mind.

PUBLIC HEARING - Thursday, May 23rd, 2019 at City Hall

NOTICE IS HERE BY GIVEN that a public hearing will be held by the City Council of the City of Vader in the City Hall council chambers on May 23rd, 2019 at 6 p.m.

The purpose of this public hearing is to review community development and housing needs, inform citizens of the availability of funds and eligible uses of the state Community Development Block Grant (CBDG), and receive comments on proposed activities, particularly from lower income persons.

Up to $750,000 on a statewide competitive basis to fund public facility, community facility, economic development, planning and affordable housing projects that principally benefit low and moderate income persons.

An outline of the proposed Wastewater Treatment Facility Upgrade project will be available for review at the Vader City Hall, Monday through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. until June 5th, 2019. Comments may also be submitted in writing to the City of Vader, PO Box 189, Vader, WA 98593 until June 5th, 2019.

The council chambers is handicap accessible. Arrangements to reasonably accommodate special needs, including handicap accessibility or interpreter, will be made upon receiving 24-hour advance notice. Contact Jill Nielson at 360-295-3222 at Vader City Hall.

Welcome Interim Council Member Randy Hall

We would like to officially announce the appointment of Randy Hall to the Vader City Council. Randy and his wife Kathi have lived in Vader since 2017 and are often seen walking the city streets and picking up litter. Councilor Hall is filling the vacant Council Position #1 (vacated by Judy Costello in March 2019). We look forward to getting to know Randy better and hope that residents will welcome him and reach out to him with their support, questions or concerns about our wonderful community.

Councilor Hall's appointment is valid until the November 2019 elections have been completed and certfied. At the time of the certification (usually late in November) Council Position #1 will be immediately filled by whomever has won the seat in the election. The elected person will fill the remaining 2 years of the term, through December of 2021.

Council Member Resigns Causing Vacancy

As of March 21, 2019, Judy Costello resigned her elected position as Vader City Councilor. The vacancy of Seat #1 will be filled by appointment, by the remaining City Council members. If you would like to be considered for this position you may contact any current member of the City Council or City Hall and let them know. The City Council has 90 days to successfully fill the position. 

The appointed position term will be valid through the November 2019 election cycle at which time the newly elected candidate will be sworn in and have a 2 year term, through 2021. After 2021, the position will return to it's regular 4 year term.

Park Board meeting date changed to February 25, 2019

The Vader Park Board's regularly scheduled meeting has been changed from February 18th to February 25, 2019 due to the President's Day holiday.
The meeting will be at 6:00 p.m. at Vader City Hall. All are welcome to attend this public meeting.

NOTICE of Mitigated Determination of Nonsignificance

The City of Vader issued a mitigated determination of nonsignificance (MDNS) under the State Environmental Policy Act Rules (Chapter 197-11 WAC) for the following project: 2017 Vader Wastewater Treatment Plan Amendment proposed by City of Vader. After review of a completed environmental checklist and other information on files with the agency, the City of Vader has determined this proposal will not have probable significant adverse impact on the environment.
Copies of the MDNS are available at no charge from Jill Nielson, City Clerk, PO Box 189, 317 8th Street, Vader, WA 98593 or 360-295-3222. The public is invited to comment on this MDNS by submitting written comments no later than November 15, 2018 to Jill Nielson, City Clerk at address listed above.

SPECIAL Planning Committee Meeting - October 2nd

The Vader Planning Committee has called a special meeting to be held on October 2, 2018 at 6 p.m. to discuss ideas about the vision for Vader. Realising that the City needs to have a common set of goals regarding where and what it wants to be in the future, the Planning Committee would like to invite the public to attend this brainstorming session on October 2nd. 

What are the important characteristics you want to maintain in Vader? What new charachteristics would you like to see? What do you want Vader to look like in 5, 10 or 20 years?

Your input is essential to making sure the city's elected and appointed officials understand what you want for your city.

Please come, Tuesday, October 2nd, 2018, 6:00 p.m., at City Hall to share your thoughts and ideas.
